Barrett D. Carlson :: PARTNER

As a Partner at CapX Partners, Barrett is responsible for both business development and investor relations.

With a background as an entrepreneur, Barrett enjoys trying to help clients grow their own business with the solutions that CapX can provide. Barrett began his career working in the manufacturing and distribution industries giving him a strong understanding of many of the issues facing CapX’s clients.

Prior to joining CapX in 2004, Barrett was a Partner in Capital Concepts Holdings, LLC. He also founded and was the Managing Partner of Nine Iron LLC, a private equity investment company, where he sourced and invested in several lower middle market investments, including real estate. Prior to that he co-founded Waterstone Consulting, a high growth management consulting and technology services firm serving manufacturers and distributors. As Partner, his responsibilities included sales and business development. He successfully led the sale of the firm to a publicly traded company. His expertise with manufacturing began with co-founding a supply chain software company, where he capitalized the company and served on its board. He began his career at Andersen Consulting (Accenture), serving clients in the manufacturing and distribution group.

He has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois. Barrett is active on several boards and in his community. He is on the board of VSA Partners, Inc. and the Illinois Venture Capital Association. He serves at Outreach Community Ministries, and his Church’s finance board.

Married with three children, Barrett lives in the Chicago area where he enjoys travel, sports and attending his children’s activities.
